Not all glass carries the same price for a reason. Standard annealed glass is the baseline. Tempered glass costs more and resists breakage, which building codes require near doors and floors. Spacer Material Tradeoffs

The spacer is the thin bar separating the two panes, and it does more than hold them apart. Old-style aluminum spacers conduct cold straight through the edge, which is why frost often forms there first.
